Unicon Bids Appear

Next year's Unicon will be Lexicon, in Oxford

The bidding session at Wincon last weekend was treated to the unusual sight of a (slightly) contested bid for the right to hold the next Unicon.

Simon Bisson and Mary Branscombe were bidding for Lexicon, to be held in Oxford in 2000. Meanwhile, Sparks was promoting a nameless bid (Christened "Nemcon" from the floor by Chris Bell) for York or Ripon in 2001.

It was, of course, observed that voting for Lexicon in 2000 did not preclude Nemcon in 2001, especially since Sparks was quite happy to come back and bid again next year. Rather confusingly, Lexicon was thus passed nem con (although with one abstention).
