Steve Stiles Wins First Rotsler Award

Steve Stiles has won the first Rotsler Memorial Fanzine Artist Award

Dr Plokta can't improve on the press release announcing this news, so here it is in full. Our congratulations to Steve Stiles, who is a worthy winner of the first Rotsler award.

The Southern California Institute for Fan Interests (SCIFI) is pleased to announce that Steve Stiles is the 1998 winner of the Rotsler Memorial Fanzine Artist Award. The award will be presented at Loscon 25, which will be held at the Burbank Airport Hilton over Thanksgiving weekend.

SCIFI announced the creation of the Rotsler Award in 1997 to honor the lifetime work of outstanding fanartists and the memory of esteemed fanartist William Rotsler. Steve was selected as the first Rotsler Award recipient in recognition of his lifelong generosity and the unique talent reflected in his work.

Steve's distinctive fanart has appeared for nearly 40 years, starting with work published in Cry of the Nameless in 1959 and continuing to the present with his contributions to Trap Door, Outworlds, Idea, Mimosa, and other leading fanzines. An exhibit of Steve's work will be on display in the Loscon 25 Art Show.

The annual award consists of $300 cash and an award plaque. Mike Glyer, Richard Lynch, and Geri Sullivan served as this year's award judges, and Mike is coordinating the Loscon exhibit of Steve's art.
