Smofcon Returns to New Orleans

The 1999 Smofcon will be held in New Orleans

Smofcon 17 will be held in New Orleans from 10 to 12 December 1999. It is being organised under the aegis of San Francisco SF Conventions Inc, the parent organisation of the 2000 Westercon and of the San Francisco Worldcon bid for 2002. A number of hotels are under consideration, but none has yet been selected. Membership is $35 until 15 December 1998, after which date it is $40, and will then increase by $10 increments to an eventual figure of $70 on the door.

Smofcon is the annual convention-runners convention, generally held in North America, although in 1993 it escaped to Jersey, in the Channel Islands. The site selection is, appropriately enough, generally smoffed rather than being subject to a contested bid, and it appears at present that Smofcon will be held in Portland, Oregon in 2000 and in York, England in 2001.
