Fire at the Adelphi Hotel

There has been a fire at the Adelphi hotel in Liverpool, the venue for this year's Eastercon, Reconvene

There has been a major fire at the Adelphi hotel in Liverpool, which will be the venue for Reconvene, the 1999 Eastercon, in 2½ months' time. The BBC reports that over fifty fire-fighters were needed to put out a blaze in the hotel's basement night-club.

The hotel was open for business this morning, albeit smelling rather of smoke, so it seems unlikely that the convention will be affected, except that the night-club may not have re-opened. Given the Adelphi's notorious security problems, this might actually be of benefit to the convention.
